Bold Street and the Ropewalks are full of independent cafés, restaurants and shops in older buildings, and much of this area is a conservation area. The council tends to want fronts that respect the original shape of the building, with sensible fascia sizes and shutters that do not hide the whole frontage at night.

Merseyside is more than one council. Bootle and Crosby belong to Sefton, Kirkby belongs to Knowsley, and Allerton, Wavertree and Kensington are Liverpool City Council. Planning applications must go to the right one.
Being close to the coast means wind-driven rain is common, so we take care with seals, drainage and fixings, particularly on corner units and exposed parades.
