Shopfront Installation in Birmingham

New shopfronts, shutters and doors for Birmingham, plus repairs from a team based nearby in Exhall.

Birmingham is our home patch along with Coventry. From our yard in Exhall we can reach most of the city in well under an hour, which is why so much of our repair and shutter work is here, as well as new fronts.

The city's high streets are a mix of Victorian parades, 1960s precincts and new developments. Soho Road in Handsworth, Stratford Road, Ladypool Road and Alum Rock Road are lined with busy independent shops where the front and shutter take a battering every day. We see a lot of worn springs, bent laths and dropped doors on these streets, and many fronts that are better repaired than replaced.

Birmingham City Council has conservation areas that matter for shopfronts, including the Jewellery Quarter, parts of Digbeth and Deritend, and several suburban centres such as Harborne and Moseley. In those areas, solid external shutters and oversized fascias are usually refused. Elsewhere the rules are lighter, but a change to how the front looks normally still needs planning permission.

The city centre sits inside the Clean Air Zone and has busy loading restrictions, so we time deliveries carefully. Sutton Coldfield falls under Birmingham City Council, but Solihull has its own council with its own planning team, which can matter if your shop sits near the boundary.

For emergencies, such as a smashed window or a shutter stuck open overnight, Birmingham is one of the areas where we can usually reach you quickly. Call the emergency line and we will tell you an honest arrival time.

Birmingham: questions we get asked

Often, yes. Birmingham City Council generally expects external shutters on shopfronts to need planning permission, and in conservation areas such as the Jewellery Quarter it prefers perforated or internal shutters. We check your address during the survey.

Birmingham is close to our base, so most of the city is a short drive. Ring the emergency line and we will give you a realistic arrival time based on where you are and the time of day.

No. Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council handles planning there, including Shirley and Knowle. Sutton Coldfield, however, is part of Birmingham City Council.
